Weston Little League is proud to announce that we will again offer a Mentor Program in 2013. For many years this has been an extremely successful program that has benefited both the mentors and the children being mentored.
The mentoring program consists of a group of Little League 12 year olds selected to mentor AA teams (second graders) while targeting, when necessary, certain players on each team who might benefit from more one on one interaction.
If your child is interested in volunteering for the program, we ask that he or she write a letter stating why he or she would make a good role model and assistant coach to a AA team.
To be eligible to be a Weston Little League Mentor, a player must:
(1) Register to play Weston Little League during the Spring 2013 season
(2) Be chosen to play in the National League Division
(3) Be 12 years old as of April 30, 2013
(4) Have a great attitude
(5) Be willing to make the minimum time commitment
- Must attend at least 2 practices
- Must attend at least 2 games
- Must attend two 1 on 1 coaching clinics
(6) Enjoy working with younger kids.
The league will hold a mandatory training session in March with those selected, covering:
The responsibilities are to attend the mandatory training session, at least two AA team practices, 2 AA team games, and two 1 on 1 coaching clinics with an assigned player.
We know this program will benefit both the mentors and those being taught. This is a very popular program and we will be limiting the number of mentors, so please encourage your child to volunteer if this is something he or she truly wants to do.
Mentors will be recognized at the end of the season.
Please email your child’s letter to Steve Odierna at
by our deadline of March 1st 2013. Since we only allow 2 mentors per AA team space is extremely limited so please submit your child’s letter prior to the March 1st. deadline.
